Tide Pools

Today, even though the beach weather was not going to cooperate again for the 3rd weekend in a row, I decided to head to the coast anyway.  I stopped in Half Moon Bay's downtown area that I had never actually been to before, but due to Memorial Day, everything was closed except for the coffee shops.  So I got a drink and a fresh bakery item and headed to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, famous for it's stretch of coast that has great tide pools.  I wasn't expecting too much, but it was amazing!  I saw all sorts of things I had only ever seen in a aquarium before, but it was so much cooler to see naturally!  Unfortunately, it was a cloudy cool day, so the pictures aren't too bright, but a few of them turned out...I need my photographer hubby back!  :)

Spring Cleaning

Well, the beach hasn't been cooperating lately...foggy again today, so I decided to stay home and do a little spring cleaning.  I realized we've been in this apartment for 1 year now, and no plans of moving!!  :)  After moving every year for the past 10 years, it's nice to stay in one place for at least 2!  But that means instead of cleaning and re-organizing to move, I figured I should do an annual clean anyway.  Let's face it, this probably wouldn't have happened if John was home, but I'm bored.  :)  I like the re-organizing part, not so much the cleaning part.  So I took a break and decided "blogging" was more fun.  So for those who have never been here, here is a look into our world...you'll get a kick out of what you get in CA for $1350/mo!!  Don't get too jealous!

Our 1-stop wonder:  living room/dining room/office

World's smallest kitchen

World's smallest bathroom:  when my grandma came to visit she got claustrophobic in here!

One-bedroom

Ok, maybe I should look on the bright side right?...at least there's less to clean, and no home/yard maintenance right?  ha.  John, if you see this from China, you're welcome--and don't worry, I know where all your stuff is.  :)

Artichoke Festival

As John flew over me (from Chicago) on his way to China, I had to find a way to entertain myself.  So I took a little road trip to a small town called Castroville (about an 1.5 hr south) for their annual artichoke festival.  I wasn't too lonely cause I found this guy to hang out with :)  While walking around, I had an artichoke/shrimp/crab salad, artichoke/carne asada tacos, homemade rootbeer, and an oreo/strawberry parfait...mmmmm.  I planned to head to the beach after that, but the coast was lookin pretty foggy...so maybe tomorrow.

KaBOOM!

We spent the day in San Fran for a little picnic of appetizers followed by "KaBoom", a radio station's music fest/fireworks show.  One of John's co-workers got us VIP passes for free food and drinks and a spot right on the waterfront.  Unfortunately, it was pretty cold and the good 'ole SF fog rolled in just in time for the fireworks!

To surf or not to surf...

To keep with the co-worker theme for the weekend, some of Chey's co-workers got together in Santa Cruz for a little surf lesson from one of our PTs.  Well, between John's bum shoulder and the cloudy 60 degree weather, John and I decided to save our 1st surfing experience for another day.  Unfortunately, those that tried to surf didn't have much luck because the waves were few and far between today.  Attempting to surf is definitely on our "to do" list before we leave CA though, so we'll try again soon.

Mexican Mustaches

John's co-workers had a pre-Cinco de Mayo party saturday night.  People became quite creative with their "mexican mustaches"--we had a unibrow, sideburns, goatee, etc.   Neither one of us won the poker game this time, but had a good time playing and hanging out.
